Masino Castle

In 1820, Risorgimento writer and patriot Silvio Pellico stayed in the Castle of Masino, located in Caravino (in province of Turin, Piedmont) – which he declared was “one of the most beautiful towns in the world”. Before him, the great playwright Vittorio Alfieri, beacon of Italian intellectuals during the Risorgimento, had stopped in the “beautiful Castle of Masino” in 1783; his favorite part was the castle’s prestigious library, home to twenty thousand precious and historical books.

The splendid building, originally a residence of the Count of Valperga, is now managed with laudable care by Fondo Ambiente Italiano. Surrounded by a huge park with an outstanding maze of hedges, the castle was first built in the 11th century, but was destroyed and rebuilt in the 1500s with impressive fortifications.

The Royal Road Wines

The Royal Road of Torino Wines is a circuit that allows visitors to discover the 25 DOC wines of the province, obtained from 11 characteristic vineyards, with tastings taking place in the numerous wineries and farms spread throughout the territory, in the 2 Regional Wineries of Roppolo and Caluso, true temples of local wine production, and in the Bottega del Vino inside the Museo del Gusto of Frossasco. The Road is made unique also by the presence, along its route, of the splendid Corona di Delizie (Crown of delights): from the Royal Palace of Venaria to the Castle of Rivoli, from the Hunting Palace of Stupinigi to the Palazzo Ducale of Agliè. Those who love wine are rewarded by a visit to the most beautiful Royal Residences of Piemonte, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Santuario di Oropa

The Oropa Sanctuary is the most important and largest Sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary to be found in the Alps. It is located in a unique, natural and unspoilt setting at 1200 mt. a.m.s.l, at only 20 minutes drive from the centre of Biella. The monumental complex is made of three courtyards: the heart of the Sanctuary is the Old Basilica where the Black Madonna is kept.
